Varnish is the key software that speeds up your web site.
It is Open Source, built on industry standards and requires very few resources.
Some of the stuff I ran into fine-tuning my varnish configuration. Pay attention, Im getting my hands dirty here.
Prerequisites Varnish server Web server with pressflow(!!)
Varnish will cache all your output, unless told differently.
Ajax content should be excluded.
When running Drupal 7 behind a Varnish reverse proxy cache, make sure to include the following lines (suitably edited) in your settings.php:
