Where I got bitten
At Imec vzw I started to gain interest for Drupal.
They have a multisite drupal stack and I got to work on in there for the first time in 2010.
All was drupal 5-6 those days.
My Girlfriend
As I am a devoted linux user. My girlfriend unwillingly knows what apache, ubuntu, solr and varnish are.
She learned that ubuntu will do all windows does, probably faster (if configured well).
She has a Job in the Health sector and does nothing with computers in her day to day life.
drupal
As my interest for drupal grew I switched to another employer, Amplexor.
This company is very project minded. This was a great evolution for me.
My mind also works on a project basis. I got the opportunity to work on belgium's bigger websites, some of them you will have used already.
What I learned
Amplexor has a Drupal team of around 7 drupal consultants.
Some of amplexor's clients are Railways , cinemas, tv stations, press companies.
I am learning so much drupal there, you cant believe, really.
- Apache (duh)
- Mysql (duh)
- Varnish (vcl)
- Apache solr (schema)
- Lightppd (LUA)
They even let me install/configure a full blown continuous integration server for one click-automatic deployments.
The good stuff
More important, I worked my way into some hard core drupal stuff.
I took up the name of drupal_sensei on drupal.org and twitter.
I stopped the competition sports I was teaching and focussed on webbuilding.
- Drupal theming
- Drupal custom modules
- Features, Strongarm and other exportables
- Drupal Searching with apachesolr (my favorite)
- Display Suite (all my sites go with that)
- Drush (and a slice of AEGIR)
